Important note about Bower and the asset plugin

Oct 20, 2017

Bower has changed their registry URL some time ago and has now announced to deprecate the old URL. Old registry will be disabled next Wednesday. In order for your work not to be affected make sure to update your composer asset plugin to the latest version:

composer global require "fxp/composer-asset-plugin:^1.4.2"

Versions prior to 1.4.2 use the https://bower.herokuapp.com/packages URL for fetching bower packages, which currently redirects to https://registry.bower.io/packages. This URL will be disabled on Wednesday, October 26, 2017 according to the Bower announcement so asset plugin versions prior to 1.4.2 will not be able to fetch any packages.

If you have any questions or comments on this topic, there is a forum topic for discussion.

Twig Extension 2.1.1 released

Oct 11, 2017

Today we've released version 2.1.1 of the Twig extension. Changes are the following:

  • Exception page now displays exact template line where an issue has occurred. Before there was, at best, a line from template compiling result that was not useful at all.
  • A Twig extension added allowing to work with Html helper in templates. You can find more details in the guide. Without the extension it was not possible to use methods such as addCssClass() because of Twig limitations.
  • Bugfixes.
  • More docs.

This version was worked on by new Twig extension maintainer, Anton Gubarev (@amarox). He's using the extension is his projects and volunteered to both polish it to perfection and develop it further.

SwiftMailer extension 2.1.0 released

Aug 4, 2017

We are very pleased to announce the release of the SwiftMailer extension version 2.1.0, which uses the latest SwitMailer versions - 6.x.

The high level interface of the extension has not been changed, thus any existing code based on 2.0.x version will likely continue to function with 2.1.x as well. However, there are some backward compatibility breaks introduced.

In particular: minimum required version of PHP has been raised to 7.0 and default transport was changed to Swift_SendmailTransport as Swift_MailTransport is no longer available. Check the UPGRADE instructions for migration from 2.0.x versions.

Also make sure your composer.json has the necessary version constraint limit if you want to stay with the 2.0.x version using SwiftMailer 5.x, e.g. ~2.0.7. Check the Composer documentation on version constraints to learn how that works.

Yii 2 Queue Extension released

Jul 17, 2017

We are happy to announce the release of the first official stable version of the Yii 2 Queue Extension. Roman Zhuravlev took care of rewriting and polishing the queue extension after core team and community made initial prototypes. His work had been released as a zhuravlev/yii2-queue package before and proved to be of good quality. Together we've decided to move the package under the yiisoft organization so it gets more attention and support. Roman agreed to maintain it further together with current Yii team.

As of today you can install the extension by requiring yiisoft/yii2-queue in composer which is tagged as version 2.0.0. The extension allows processing of background jobs and provides a common interface for different backend systems from simple onces, like file and database storages, to queue systems like Beanstalk, Gearman, RabbitMQ, and Redis.

Check out the README for quick start instructions. More detailed docs are also available in the repository and will be put into website and linked from official guide soon.

Yii 1.1.19 is released

Jun 8, 2017

We are very pleased to announce that Yii Framework version 1.1.19 is released. You can download it at yiiframework.com/download/.

This release is a release of Yii 1.1 that has reached maintenance mode and will, only receive necessary security fixes and fixes to adjust the code for compatibility with PHP 7 if they do not cause breaking changes. This allows you to keep your servers PHP version up to date in the environments where old Yii 1.1 applications are hosted and stay within the version ranges supported by the PHP team. Yii 1.1.19 is compatible with PHP 7.1 that, at the time of this writing, has an announced security support until December 1, 2019.

We recommend to use Yii 2.0 for new projects as well as introducing Yii 2.0 for developing new features in existing Yii 1.1 apps, as described in the Yii 2 guide. Upgrading a whole app to Yii 2.0 will, in most cases, result in a total rewrite so this option provides a way for upgrading step by step and allows you to keep old applications up to date even with low budget.
