You probably heard about a good WYSIWYG editor called Imperavi Redactor or even tried it. If you like it, there's a good news for you. Our excellent community funded buying Redactor OEM license so now it can be used for free for any Yii-based product.

Since we do not want to bloat Yii itself too much, it will not be integrated into the core framework. You can get it as an extension from YiiExt repository.

Note that Redactor itself isn't OpenSource product so check if license is OK for you before actually using it.

Since this is an RC release, please do not use it for production. We will make a stable release of 1.1.13 in the next few weeks. Before that happens, please help us test this RC release and report to us any issues you find. Thank you.

Since the last release (Yii 1.1.12), we have accumulated 31 bug fixes, 39 enhancements and 6 updates. It's time for us to prepare for the next release: Yii 1.1.13.

As it happened few times in the past that bugs where discovered immediately after a new release we decided to start with a new release practice that hopefully will give much better and stable releases.

On Dec 2, 2012. we will make a Yii 1.1.13 RC (Release Candidate)!

Because Yii 1.1 has been widely used and it has received a lot of support from the community users, we decided to extend the end-of-maintenance date of Yii 1.1 to December 31, 2015. And if needed, we may further extend this date. This means we'll continue fixing important things, reviewing pull requests and answering questions about Yii 1.1, even after Yii 2 is released.

Today JetBrains announced the release of PhpStorm version 5 which adds initial support for the Yii framework.

PhpStorm is one of the most popular and powerful PHP IDE that is used by several of our core Yii team members. The latest Yii support adds a special tool window for Yii-based projects and displays the MVC structure of the projects.

The recent update of DHTMLX, a JavaScript component library, introduces the possibility to integrate the client-side DHTMLX components with the Yii framework. DHTMLX delivers a rich collection of user interface components including rich-featured data grid, treeview, event calendar, and other.

The integration with Yii is done through the special PHP layer (dhtmlxConnector) that handles client-server data communication. dhtmlxConnector helps to integrate the DTHMLX JavaScript components with the model-view-controller (MVC) design pattern used in Yii.

There is a detailed tutorial that describes how to integrate data grid and event calendar in a Yii application. It shows how to bind the DHTMLX components to the database and update data on the server when the user makes changes on the client side.

We are very pleased to announce the immediate availability of Yii Framework version 1.1.11. In this release, we've included more than 100 enhancements and bug fixes.

This release is very special because it's the first release since we've moved to github and a lot of work are contributed by our awesome community, including new features, bug fixes, unit tests, and of course, translations.

We want to thank all people who invested their time and brainpower in getting Yii better: resurtm, DaSourcerer, cebe, suralc and many others.

The first Yii conference called YiiConf 2012 was held on May 19 in Kiev, Ukraine. It gathered more than 200 people from Yii Russian-speaking community. Since it was in Russian, we didn't announce it at yiiframework.com. The conference went extremely successful. We hereby are sharing some information with you.

It was really friendly and went with a good hacking spirit and, of course, a lot of informal talks and events that are often as interesting as the conferences themselves. In case of YiiConf both infomal activities and speeches were very good.

It's official now: Yii is on GitHub! We also switched to use GitHub issue tracker. Existing issues have already been imported into it.

Many users have requested for this, and we think it's a wise move to put Yii on GitHub to encourage more people to participate in developing Yii.

SVN users, do not worry. We will still keep our SVN repository. A synchronization between our git repository and svn repository will be done nightly.
