I had to partially render two types of views, depending on user selection. Wanted to display a GRID or a LIST style with an event that AJAX'ed new contents and update a layer with them.

Sometimes the active form we wish to use to edit/add a new element on our database is too small and we believe that is much better to use an AJAX'ed dialog/slide form rather than reloading the page to just display one or two fields.

With Yii you can use one CActiveForm for collecting data for two or more models with ajax validation and client validation.

I'm developing a website that has an option to look up a car's registration number via SOAP and return additional details such as make, model, colour etc.

Since I used CGridView for a first time, I didn't like how it handled operations like sorting, filtering, changing page and etc using AJAX.

As I'm new to the framework (2 weeks) - I tried to build a functionallity I already use a lot in my old framework (PRADO). This means combining a GridView with a form. And this in one page, what allows you to select a record from the grid and view the values in the same page without jumping to a new page.
