I want to create some server, that you just unrar it, and you have Yii inside…
Not sure if it is very good idea, because if you cant get server running, Yii is not for you…
But nevertheless …
Tried easyphp, it says it is portable, I even “hacked” i t a little bit

But when I tried to port it from xp to windows 7, it not working… not sure why…
Maybe by writing that it portable, they say it is light ?
Tried Zi:Wamp … not running well…

Have you tryed to installa a portable app!?
Me no. But I think you can install a server in a usb key and with some stuff you can run your yii application in you server that run in your pen drive.

I think I remember a virtual appliance with nginx+yii being available for download somewhere…

You can try Open Server: it’s nice and portable. The only downside is that it’s in Russian: open-server.ru
