I have the same error (Invalid backend configuration). In modules/elfinder/controllers/DefaultController.php:

$opts=array(
'root'=>Yii::app()->basePath.'/../userfiles/',
'URL'=>Yii::app()->baseUrl.'/usefiles/',
'rootAlias'=>'Home',
);

In config/main.php:
'basePath'=>dirname(__FILE__).DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR.'..'

I can not understand where is my mistake
